How many fisheries are overfished, and what does that mean?

9 Nov, 2022

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), an estimated 60% of the world’s fisheries are fully fished. On the other hand, 33% of fisheries are overfished, this percentage is mainly composed of those with low abundance. The remaining 7% corresponds to underexploited fisheries (“underfished”) or those in which the potential catch is not being reached.
