The International Seafood Sustainability Foundation’s (ISSF) latest strategic plan maintains Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification as a core tenet, as the organizations advocate for more sustainable wild-caught seafood products. The new Strategic Plan builds upon the previous plan to achieve sustainability in tuna fisheries by aligning with the current sustainability landscape. Developed with a multi-stakeholder approach, MSC certification remains integral to the plan, as the five-year objective is for all participating companies to source tuna fisheries that meet and maintain the MSC certification standard or have a clear timeline for compliance by 2027, according to ISSF President Susan Jackson.
