Scientists from INIDEP suggest that the management of the Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides) in South America could be adjusted to independent exploitation units. The study examines historical data and recent research to explore potential differentiation among populations of the species in South American waters. It analyzes genetic studies, otolith microchemistry, morphometry, parasitic fauna, tagging and recapture programs, reproductive characteristics, and the impact of ocean circulation on dispersion and recruitment.
